GOOD NIGHT IN: PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTNING THIEF (R2 DVD) ***

"Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), a 12 year-old boy (apparently) and son of Poseidon, sets out on a quest in present-day America to rescue his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt and prevent a civil war from erupting among the gods in this slightly shoddy-looking CGI adventure.

Based on the young adult book by Rick Riordan, this often entertaining romp is a little bit too long, takes a while to get going, but for the most part, cleverly updates Greek Mythology and impresses with some decent set-pieces and well-rounded characters.

More fun could've been had, and it's a pity none of the characters have seen either the original Clash of the Titans (1981) or its shameful remake, but Lerman's Jackson and Alexandra Daddario's Annabeth are for more interesting than Potter and co, so chucking a few more notes at a sequel will be most welcome."
