Still not over the fact Kim Bodnia won’t be showing up in
the third season of The Bridge? This might help. Producers of the Scandinavian crime hit, Mans
Marlind and Bjorn Stein, are behind Midnight Sun, an eight-episode murder mystery
set in the Arctic over one murderous summer.
France's CanalPlus and Sweden's SVT are also behind the project,
which is being billed as the first-ever TV co-production between the countries.
What’s it all about then? A French
citizen is murdered in a remote mining community in the far north of Sweden.
Naturally, a French detective is sent to investigate the killing, and here’s
the familiar part, he’s joined by a local police officer, a Swedish cop from
the indigenous Sami community.
Why’s it called Midnight Sun? Because the investigation
takes place in the summer, but being the Arctic, there's 24-hour sunlight, referred to as the
midnight sun period. What about Martin? Martin won't be returning to The Bridge, and he's not soaking up the midnight sun either. Bodnia is currently filming August, and
three films featuring him are in post-production, including Jon Stewart’s
directorial debut, Rosewater. DW
