NEWS: DREAM HOME COMING TO BLU-RAY

Dream Home featured in our East Meets West: Top Ten UK Asian Releases of 2011 feature. High praise indeed. Now it's coming to shiny Blu. Dream Home is available from May 25, 2015. Here are two (pretty similar) verdicts on it at Twistedwing.

"It doesn't take much to upset Cheng (Josie Ho), a huge residential project blocks her view of the harbour and she's pissed. Not helped by her inability to save up enough cash for her family to move in to the new complex. So what does she do? Well, first she works hard, taking on two jobs, but no matter how hard she toils, she still cannot earn enough to keep up with the ever-increasing values of Honk Kong's real estate.

Suddenly, it dawns on her - in order to get what she wants she must take matters into her own hands, which basically means going on a murder spree that should see the value of the building drop dramatically.

Well, I've seen horror movies with worse motives, and Dream Home is saved by some fantastic scenes of mutilation and carnage - especially those of the look-away variety. Littered with flashbacks that interrupt the mayhem but eventually do what's required and create a sense of empathy (sort of), if you want some seriously entertaining bloodshed, look no further because this is insane." "Dream Home isn’t just about blood, guts, badly timed sex and a nice sea view. Chronicling the frustrations of an average Hong Kong citizen trying to buy property in the city's out-of-control real estate market - made all the more apparent by the film’s opening statement - Dream Home is as much about murder, and as much about dark comedy, as it is about angry indictments of contemporary Hong Kong.

Pang Ho Cheung has pretty much crafted the first intelligent slasher movie, a film that digs deeper than your average horror vehicle. It’s violent, darkly comic and gleefully twisted, but it also comes with an intelligent subtext that might impress your partner. I said might." AW
